How is our food the way it is....
The high quality of fish and chips of which Marino's Fish Bar is renowned for, has been gradually on the rise since the business was fist established in the 1980s, in Wincheap. Two decades of sustained top quality fresh food, clean shops, friendly staff and outstanding service have ensured we remain top of our game. Generations of the same family have worked and built up Marino's Fish Bar creating a perfect marriage of traditional cooking methods with modern and inventive establishments.
Marino's Fish Bar has been acknowledged many a time for its honest and wholesome approach to food service in newspapers such as The Times, The Sun and The Canterbury Gazette. Locals have been faithful to Marino's Fish bar for many years, not only because they know they are receiving a healthy meal, and not only because they know it will be freshly prepared but also because they know they'll be recognised by the staff behind the counter who'll be there to serve quickly and efficiently.
Marino's Fish Bar's innovation sets a precedence which others can only follow. We were the first Fish and Chip website in the United Kingdom, one of the first to introduce a free-phone ordering service, our Fish Fryers are all brand new and of the latest technology, our unique packaging is environmentally friendly, our charity work is unparalleled, and the aesthetics of our shops are modern and creative.
We all have a few questions about the quality and freshness of the food we eat; where it comes from; the standards in which it's prepared and cooked; and whether we are harming our environment with the packaging it's presented in. Well, below we have some reassuring answers to your concerns.
What is in our Fish and Chips?
Nothing but meaty white fish from the cold seas of the Atlantic and Arctic ocean and when possible of the Kent shores and fine quality local Maris Piper potatoes (Cambrideshire & Lincolnshire seasonally).
Do we put any additives, colour or preservatives in our Fish and Chips?
No. That pure white colour of the fish is completely as nature presented it to us. And our chips are golden because they're thoroughly cleaned and cooked to perfection in spotless Vegetable Oil.
Where does our fish come from?
All our fish is environmentally friendly and from sustainable sources. All cod, plaice, haddock, rock and skate come from our local fish suppliers early in the morning, straight after they've picked them up from the fishermen. We then cut and clean the fish, ready for cooking on the very same day. We insist that our suppliers provide guarantees of their sustainability.
Where do our potatoes come from?
We cut no corners on our potatoes. We pay for top quality Maris Piper potatoes when available which are delivered to us twice a week. Seasonally we use Cabaret Premiere, Accord and a few other varieties to ensure top quality throughout the year. With our high-tech equipment we clean, peel and cut our potatoes as and when they're needed, that's how we ensure they are always crisp and fresh!
What makes us 'green'?
Our regulars know that we've been using eco-friendly packaging for over 2 years now. All our food is presented in recycled boxes, which are sturdy and easy to hold, and they often eliminate the need for a carrier bag too. We have a dedicated recycling scheme in all shops.
What about the oil our food is cooked in?
Our Vegetable oil has to be of an outstanding quality, or else our batter wouldn't look so golden and our food wouldn't maintain its flavour. We clean and filter the oil in our fryers throughout every day. But don't worry; none of the food on your plate will ever be greasy because we drain the oil left on the food, twice!
How do I know what's in the pies/sausages and burgers?
These products are frozen to maintain their freshness. The meat used complies to all food standards and only the finest cuts of beef and chicken are used from renowned frozen food producers.
